Hayman’s depiction of the Expulsion from Paradise is altogether more Miltonic than the conventional imagery of Michael driving out the pair with raised sword. Hayman portrays Adam and Eve in substantially the same postures as the 1688 plate (no. 46), but has the angel leading them by the hands.
