Emre’s research focuses on molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders, specifically Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. After completing his undergraduate and masters degrees in neuroscience at Dalhousie University, Canada, he joined Professor Sir David Klenerman’s group at University of Cambridge for his PhD, during which he developed and used single-molecule detection methods to study the amyloid cascade hypothesis of Alzheimer’s disease. He is currently working with Professor Maria Grazia Spillantini, investigating mitochondrial pathologies related to aging and Parkinson’s disease.
