The College is very pleased to congratulate Honorary Fellow Professor Linda Colley on being awarded an honorary degree at Oxford University's Encaenia ceremony on 22nd September, cancelled last year because of the global pandemic.

Receiving honorary degrees with Professor Colley were former United States First Lady and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton; Jeanette Winterson, the award winning author; Professor Dame Sally Davies, Master of Trinity College here in Cambridge; Professor Anna Deavere of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts; and Baroness Ruth Lister, Emeritus Professor of Social Policy at Loughborough University.

Following her first degree in history at Bristol, Linda came to Cambridge and Newnham College to undertake her doctorate, subsequently holding a Research Fellowship at Girton and a joint lectureship in history at Newnham and King's Colleges. In 1979 Linda Colley was appointed the first woman Fellow at Christ's and made an Honorary Fellow in 2005.  She is married to another Christ's Honorary Fellow, Professor Sir David Cannadine.

Professor Colley is currently Shelby M C Davis 1958 Professor of History at Princeton University and a long term Fellow in History at the Swedish Collelgium for Advanced Study in Uppsala.

Colley
