We are delighted to hear the news that Sathnam Sanghera (m.1995) has won the Best Book Award in the non-fiction category of the Bookseller Awards for  'Empireland: How Imperialism Has Shaped Modern Britain'.

In Empireland Satham demonstrates how much of what we consider to be modern Britain is actually rooted in our imperial past.  He shows how our past is everywhere, from how we live to how we think.

“Brilliant”, “powerful” and “moving” were just some of the accolades given by the judges, who described the book as a “journey of discovery”.

It should also be noted 'Vaxxers, by former Fellow Dr Cath Green, was shortlisted in this category.  Jointly written by Cath and Professor Sarah Gilbert, Vaxxers is their story of making the pioneering Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine and fighting a pandemic as ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.
