Honorary Fellow Professor Philip Kitcher, John Dewey Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at Columbia University (New York) is awarded the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award.

The international BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards recognise world-class research and cultural creation, privileging contributions of broad impact for their originality and theoretical significance.

The award is made to Professor Kitcher for “his impact as a ‘humanist intellectual’ whose trailblazing work addresses a broad spectrum of the core questions of our time.”

Professor Kitcher said:

I've tried to explore the ways in which various pieces of science are relevant to our human behavior and to the ways in which we live. It seems to me that philosophy can often clarify these things and also settle some of the disputes that arise within the sciences themselves.

Professor Kitcher’s new book The Rich & the Poor, published by Polity Press in April 2025 offers a new account of how ethics and politics should mix.

It arises from the C P Snow Lecture 'The Rich and the Poor' delivered at Christ’s College by Professor Kitcher in 2023.
