Martin Spooner is the Director of College Services (Steward) at Christ’s College, Cambridge, leading a diverse team delivering the College’s operational, residential, hospitality, and estate-related services. He provides strategic oversight for departmental heads across accommodation, catering, conferencing, maintenance, porters, gardens, and the boathouse, supporting around 100 staff.

Since joining Christ’s in 2013, Martin has overseen numerous major capital and refurbishment projects, including the full refurbishment of the Grade I listed First Court, a 64-room graduate accommodation development, improvements across hostels, and preparatory works for a large-scale estate decarbonisation programme that has reduced the College’s carbon footprint by 28% since 2018. He also provides senior support for the £30m Library+ redevelopment project.

Martin plays an active role in cross-College governance, contributing to committees that shape strategic, operational, and financial planning.

Before joining Christ’s, Martin held senior leadership roles within the hospitality sector, including General Manager positions within the IHG group. He holds a BA (Hons) in Hotel and Catering Management, alongside NEBOSH Health & Safety certification.
