Our aim is to be an institution which balances the determined pursuit of excellence with a sense of care and responsibility for our society and for the students, Fellows, staff and alumni who constitute our College. We are committed to providing a secure and supportive environment in which to thrive.

A rounded experience

Striving for academic excellence is a given, but we recognise the paramount importance of complementing  it with cultural, social, sporting and civic pursuits to offer a rounded experience and encourage positive physical and mental health. The College supports its active JCR and MCR, the Choir and the Boat Club, as well as a full range of clubs and societies. Securing the future of these activities remains a priority, as well as developing new initiatives that encourage increased participation, particularly in sport and music.

Excellence in teaching

The heart of a Cambridge education lies in the supervision system, with the Colleges responsible for delivering the teaching that shapes our students and their approach to thinking, challenging and finding the solutions that will prepare them to make their mark on the world. Increasingly, we are relying on College Teaching Officers, employed by Christ’s rather than by the University, to deliver core teaching in some of the most popular subjects, such as History, Maths, English, Economics and Law. We currently employ six CTOs across these subjects, with around 50% of the costs supported by endowed funds. Our aim is to secure the future of this crucial provision by increasing endowed funds for College-based teaching.

Proactive wellbeing support

It is widely recognised that young people face ever increasing challenges to their wellbeing and mental health, and University mental health services have experienced a huge surge in demand over recent years. Our dedicated Wellbeing Advisor takes a proactive and preventative approach to student wellbeing, as well as being a consistent presence in College when timely help and support is needed. We are committed to underpinning this provision for the future, alongside new developments such as an additional part-time Wellbeing Advisor and a range of activities directed at the welfare and mental health of our students.

Graduate accommodation

We know that in a challenging city for private rentals, our students can achieve their best in College-owned accommodation. The College can currently accommodate all our undergraduates, but only half our postgraduate community. We are committed to acquiring enough property to house all our postgraduate students who would like accommodation, with a particular focus on hostels close to College to encourage a sense of community and connection.

Student Support Fund

Gifts to our Student Support Fund will allow us to underpin and grow the means-tested support we can offer, through undergraduate bursaries, International Awards, post-graduate studentships and bursaries and dedicated support for students who are refugees or asylum seekers. They will also allow us to support our students throughout their time with us, through a proactive and preventative approach to wellbeing, and additional financial support for travel, sports, music and other extra-curricular activities.

Teaching Fund

Gifts to our Teaching Fund will secure the future of the College-based teaching that lies at the heart of a Cambridge education, particularly by securing the future of our College Teaching Officer positions.

Research Fund

Gifts to our Research Fund will help secure the future of the Junior Research Fellowship programme, investing in the future of world-leading research and teaching. They will also support College-based research into urgent, important and fast-changing areas, such as biodiversity and climate change.

General Annual Fund

Gifts to our General Annual Fund will allow us to prioritise expenditure, channelling resources where they are needed most urgently needed.
