At this time there is no online catalogue of the western manuscripts in the Old Library.

  • Manuscripts acquired up until c.1905 are described in Montague Rhodes James' A Descriptive Catalogue of the Western Manuscripts in the Library of Christ's College, Cambridge (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1905). A PDF version of this catalogue can be downloaded here.

The vast majority of the College's Greek manuscripts were presented by William Henry Denham Rouse, Fellow of the College from 1888 to 1894, Honorary Fellow from 1933 until his death, and headmaster of the Perse School in Cambridge.

  • These manuscripts are described in P.E. Easterling, Greek Manuscripts in Cambridge: Recent Acquisitions by College Libraries, the Fitzwilliam Museum and Private Collectors (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1966). The text also appears in Transactions of the Cambridge Bibliographical Society, Vol. 4/3 (1966), pp. 179-191. A PDF version of Greek manuscripts catalogue can be downloaded here.

Additionally, library staff are happy to check available catalogues on your behalf; and if you would like to arrange to visit our collections in person, please email library@christs.cam.ac.uk or phone 01223 334905.

If possible, please quote the relevant manuscript number(s) in any correspondence.
