John Milton (1608–1674) Paradise lost. A poem written in ten books. First Edition (London: [S. Simmons], 1668. Ee.4.9, fifth title page variant.

This copy bears the fifth recorded title page variant, printed in 1668, as well as additional front-matter added at the publisher’s request. This title page displays a slightly different layout and font size, with the addition of a block of ornaments beneath the author’s name. The poem is now buttressed by several paratexts bound after the new title page: seven pages of prose ‘Argument’ (plot summaries for each book), a note on the verse, and a leaf of errata.
