Katy Hempson, a 5th year medical student, is trialling for the Cambridge crews as part of the famous Oxford/Cambridge Boat Race which takes place each year on the Tideway of the River Thames.
For Katy, who took up rowing when she came to Cambridge from her school in Chorley, rowing at this level means juggling the demands of training, academic work and hospital placements.
Second year music student and pianist Manav Paul has reached the final of the University of Cambridge’s band competition ‘Take it to the Bridge’ with his band ‘East Street on a Tit’.
The five-piece band, formed a year ago, perform jazz classics and contemporary tunes. The other band members – on drums, bass, trombone and vocals - are from King’s, Fitzwilliam and Pembroke Colleges.
Madhulika Chebrol, a PhD student in the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, who was born in the Indian city of Visakhapatnam remembers the stories her grandmother told her when she was growing up.

Sandi Toksvig, OBE the award-winning author, broadcaster, entertainer and founder of the Women’s Equality Party, is elected a Bye Fellow of Christ’s College, Cambridge.
She is also awarded the first Qantabrigian Q+ Fellowship by the LGBTQ+ research programme in the Department of Sociology whose founding Director is Christ’s Fellow Professor Sarah Franklin.
Professor Susan Bayly has been honoured with the publication of a collection of essays edited by former students and colleagues from the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge.
Christ’s has welcomed 127 new undergraduate and 121 new postgraduate students to College this week, as well as seven new Fellows. Chemist Dr Richard Tse will be admitted to the Fellowship next week.

Alexandra has over 15 years’ experience in fundraising, having worked for the Hallé, London Philharmonic Orchestra and most recently the Royal Opera House, where she held the role of Associate Head, Strategic Funding.
