Every year, we run a History Taster event that aims to give you a taste of what it is like to study History at Cambridge. This event will next take place on a weekday in the week of 8-12 March 2027 (exact date to be confirmed).
Details on this webpage refer to the 2026 event, to give you an idea of the previous year. This webpage will be updated later in 2026 when applications open for the 2027 event.

The event takes place at Christ's College, Cambridge, beginning at 10:00 and finishing at approximately 16:15. Those wishing to attend should bear these timings in mind when applying for a place, as it is your responsibility to organise your travel to and from Cambridge.
The full schedule outline will be updated here in due course, but attendees can expect academic taster sessions with Christ's Fellows in History, the opportunity to meet and ask questions to current undergraduates in History and hear about examples of undergraduate research, and to ask questions of admissions staff. Participants can also expect to learn about our foundress, Lady Margaret Beaufort, who founded the college in 1505 and was a hugely influential figure in the 15th century and matriach of the Tudor dynasty.
In person attendees
Those visiting for the Taster Day are responsible for getting themselves to and from Christ's College, Cambridge. In the links below, you can find travel information.
There is no programme for parents and guardians. If a parent or guardian has accompanied you for the journey to Cambridge, we ask that they leave you at the Great Gate and you come into College on your own.
We may have very limited accommodation available (usually only a maximum of two guest rooms) for the night before the event. Students who are in local authority care, or eligible for government-funded free school meals are eligible for financial support with travel costs to Cambridge, and will also be prioritised if requiring overnight accommodation (in combination with distance).

Online attendees
There may be an opportunity to attend one of the sessions online for those who are unable to travel to Cambridge. This is to be confirmed.
This Taster Day is aimed at academically able students in the UK who meet all of the criteria below:
(a) You attend an academy, school or college in the UK, or you are home educated in the UK.
(b) You are in Year 12 (England and Wales), S5 (Scotland) or Y13 (Northern Ireland). We also accept applications from students in the year above if you have not applied to university this year and are planning to apply in October 2026 to start in 2027 (taking a gap year).
(c) You are studying History and two other subjects for A Level, IB Higher Level or Scottish Higher (intending to continue to Advanced Higher).
(d) You have achieved at least 6 GCSEs at grade 7 or higher, including at least three of those at grade 8 or 9 (i.e. at least 888777 at GCSE). Scotland: A majority of National 5s at grade A.
(e) You are interested in exploring the past beyond the standard school curriculum, and are genuinely interested in pursuing History or a similar course for undergraduate study at university.

Applications must be made by the individual student.
Those offered a place will be expected to be available on the day, including those attending any session that we offer online - there will not be recordings.
In the event that we are oversubscribed for this taster day, priority will be given to students who: are care-experienced (including experience in local authority or foster care, and kinship care); who are refugees, asylum seekers or forced migrants; who are currently eligible for government-funded free school meals; who have been eligible for government-funded free school meals in the previous 6 years; receive the 16-19 bursary (England) or Education Maintenance Allowance (rest of UK); young carers; attend a school that does not charge fees; whose home address is within the bottom 40% of postcodes on the Indices of Multiple Deprivation measure.
Even if you don't meet any of the priority criteria above, please still apply if you meet the core criteria!
