National Apprenticeship Week takes place from 9-15 February 2026. Christ’s College contributes to an apprenticeship levy which allows staff members to study towards a national qualification as part of their working week.
Thorunn Byrne, Head of Human Resources said:
“Apprenticeships are a great opportunity for staff members to build their skills in a way which benefits both the individuals and the workplace.”
Three staff members told us about their apprenticeships and what it means to them to have this opportunity.

Isabel Andrews: Human Resource Apprentice
I am currently studying towards the CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate in People Practice, which I will complete over the next two years.
I chose a HR apprenticeship because it offers hands-on learning alongside real workplace experience, allowing me to develop practical people skills from day one.
I was drawn to HR as it is a people-focused career where I can make a real impact on employee wellbeing, development, and workplace culture. The apprenticeship itself provides clear progression, a recognised qualification and strong long-term career opportunities.

Loren McLean: Conference, Sales and Event Manager
In September 2025 I started my Business-to-Business Sales Professional Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship.
This is a 3-year course that combines both work-based learning and off the job training to build up a portfolio of work that is relevant to my current job role. After the 3 years of learning I should receive a BSc (Hons) Degree.
I wanted to do this course to further my education as I never went to university, instead deciding to go straight into work and gain experience that way. I feel that with this apprenticeship, it gives me a push into further education to keep me learning and progressing in my career as well as making it relevant to the job that I do.
Over these first few months of this course, I have really enjoyed the challenge, and I can already see where some of my learning can be put into practice here at Christ’s.

Ellie Wood: Outreach Coordinator and Admissions Officer
I am studying for a Level 3 Data Technician qualification through the Data Insights for Business Decisions apprenticeship with Multiverse. I decided to go for this apprenticeship as a development opportunity for myself and in support of the wider Admissions team.
Across the year I will develop skills and knowledge to use data more effectively, including data management, data visualisation and dashboards, automation of regular processes, and then using these insights to better inform priorities and strategic decisions in our department.
It has only been the first few weeks, and I have already been able to implement improvements to some of our day-to-day work!
