Holly is a postdoc in computational biology at the Milner Therapeutics Institute in Cambridge. Her research aims to identify new drug targets in lung cancer, by integrating sequencing data from clinical samples and in vitro clinical models. In parallel to her research, she also heads a committee to organise the monthly Cambridge AI Club for Biomedicine. The AI Club is a new initiative to bring together the computational biology community in Cambridge, to discuss common themes and explore different topics within bioinformatics.
Prior to her postdoc Holly undertook her PhD at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg with Dr Wolfgang Huber. Her PhD work sought to investigate the role that the tumour microenvironment plays in drug resistance in leukaemia, using computational and statistical methods. During her PhD, she also worked with Merck KGaA to investigate a new therapeutic modality to prepare for future pandemics.
Before her PhD, Holly obtained her BA in Natural Sciences from Christ’s (m. 2014). During her time as an undergraduate, she was Co-President of the Lady Margaret Society, which aimed to champion women at Christ’s, both past and present, and Co-President of the Cambridge University Scientific Society.
Holly’s teaching at Christ’s focuses on Biological Natural Sciences courses. She is also offering mentoring sessions for postgraduate students focusing on fostering good academic practices and honing essential skills throughout the course of a PhD.
