The College choir, accompanied by the Chaplain Dr Helen Orchard, sang from the Fellows’ Building early this morning to mark Ascension Day.
It is traditional for choirs to sing from high places to celebrate Ascension - the date in the Christian calendar when Christ ascended into heaven.
Ascension Day occurs – always on a Thursday - 40 days after the resurrection on Easter Sunday.

The anthems included ‘O clap your hands’ by Orlando Gibbons and ‘Coelos ascendit hodie. Alleluia!’ by Charles Villiers Stanford with a reading from Acts 1:6-11.
The Master, staff, students and Fellows attended the annual service – and even the College cats, Finch and Baines, made a rare joint appearance!

Dr Orchard said:
Ascending on high to sing for the Feast of the Ascension is always a highlight of the Easter term, and lining up along the parapet of the Fellow’s Building made it even more enjoyable this year.
It was challenging for the singers, who can’t really hear each other, but the verdict from the ground was: in tune and in time, so well done Christ’s choir!
