Dr. Yuen Cheong (Richard) Tse is a supramolecular chemist based in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. He has been elected as a Todd-Croucher Junior Research Fellow at Christ’s College, Cambridge, and is also a postdoctoral research fellow in the research group of Prof. Oren A. Scherman. His primary research interest lies in the exploitation of mechanical bonds in molecular recognition and the development of smart functional materials.

Richard graduated from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) with a BSc degree in Chemistry (First Class Honours). He was then awarded the University of Oxford Croucher Scholarship to pursue a DPhil in Inorganic Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Paul D. Beer at the University of Oxford (Lady Margaret Hall). His doctoral research focused on incorporating sigma-hole donors (e.g., halogen bonding, chalcogen bonding) into the molecular framework of mechanically interlocked structures (e.g., rotaxanes, catenanes) for the selective recognition of anions and ion pairs. After receiving his DPhil degree, he briefly returned to Hong Kong and worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the research group of Dr. Ho Yu Au-Yeung before joining Christ’s in 2023 as a Todd-Croucher Junior Research Fellow.
