Join us for an exciting event showcasing the conservation work happening at the Old Library!
The event will showcase two of our Coptic Arabic manuscripts that have recently been restored and will feature talks from renowned Egyptologist, Dr Alexandre Loktionov (Access Bye-Fellow, Former Wallis Budge Junipr Research Fellow, Professor of Egyptology, HSE UNiversity) and Flavio Marzo (Head of conservation, Cambridge Colleges Conservation Consortium)
The schedule is as follows:
Welcome: Catherine Ascough, College Librarian and Holly Dowse, Assistant Librarian
Flavio Marzo: Flavio will discuss the exceptional conservation work undertaken on the Coptic Arabic manuscripts that has helped to preserve and safeguard their historical significance for generations to come.
Dr Alexandre Loktionov: Dr Loktionov will present on three elements of his current work: reading Ancient Egyptian tomb texts to reconstruct links between religion and justice, studying papyri to gain new insights into ancient climate change, and building a new Egyptology website for Christ's College. He will aim to demonstrate that, while drawing from the past, Egyptology is a dynamic discipline with much to offer the present and future too.
There'll also be time for a Q&A and networking at the end!
