Supporting the very best minds from across the world.

We select students based solely on their outstanding academic achievement and potential, and are committed to sustained access and outreach work in the UK and internationally to ensure that we can reach, support and fund as many of the best students as possible from all backgrounds. Last year 2,500 young people took part in our access activities, translating into 37% of our current offer-holders, a figure we are committed to growing in the future.

In particular, we are determined to attract more undergraduate applications from underrepresented groups and regions in the United Kingdom, through increased investment in access and outreach work. We must then ensure that the support is in place to allow those students to achieve to the very highest of their ability.

Christ’s has long been an international community. Our access and outreach work leads the way in reaching talented young people across the world who face real and perceived barriers to coming here. The cost of studying in the UK, particularly since Brexit, are increasingly prohibitive for international students without independent means. In particular, we are committed to supporting, every year, students affected by war and humanitarian crisis in their home countries, having spearheaded Cambridge’s commitment to Ukrainian refugees since 2022.

I really enjoyed how we were given the chance to have a taste of the student life at the University, by actually staying at Christ’s and talking to so many students about their college life.

The College’s role in empowering minds continues after graduation. Our four-year Junior Research Fellowships nurture the brilliant young academics of the future, offering a supportive environment with the time and space to navigate that transition from postgraduate studies into postdoctoral positions. We aim to admit four new JRFs each year, three of which are already endowed in perpetuity. We would like, through philanthropy, to likewise secure the future of a fourth Junior Research Fellowship position each year, enabling some of the most gifted young academics to establish their careers at Christ’s.
