Founded in 2001, CUUS is the oldest student-run Ukrainian society in the UK and exists to promote Ukrainian culture, history, and contemporary issues within Cambridge’s academic community.

Christ's College has made a strategic commitment to support students affected by war or humanitarian crisis. Earlier this year the College hosted the 4th Summit of the Ukrainian Student Union, a two-day networking event attended by 150 students from universities across the UK.

CUUS, which is open to any student at the University, holds regular educational and social events, but the film screening is a public event.

Diana, a Ukrainian in her third year studying Psychological and Behavioural Sciences, said:

“Right now, the Society is focussing on showcasing the resilience and bravery of Ukrainian people, but we're also trying to expand horizons and talk about Ukrainians beyond the wartime narratives, because we do have a future beyond Russia's war.”

'Timestamp', written and directed Kateryna Gornostai, premiered at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, in February 2025. The film is in Ukrainian with English subtitles and runs for 60 minutes.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion in English including representatives from Cambridge City Council, Cambridgeshire County Council, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, Osvitoria (a nonprofit organization driving systemic change in education in Ukraine for over a decade), and Nataliia Gutaruk (a Ukrainian teacher of English).

The event takes place in the Yusuf Hamied Lecture Theatre on Friday 28 November, 18:00 to 20:00. It is free and open to all. Register to attend here.
