Cambridge City Council has voted to grant planning permission and listed building consent to Christ’s to build a new Library with associated upgrading to the kitchens and dining facilities.

Simon McDonald, Master said:

“We are delighted to have received planning permission for Library+. This outcome is a credit to all involved and we are ready to embark on the next stage of this project which will create a modern, sustainable and accessible building fit for generations to come.”

The College will address the conditions set out as part of the planning permission and intends to begin the next stage in early 2026.

Alternative kitchen and dining facilities will be installed in Second Court for the start of Easter Term 2026 and demolition of the existing Library will take place during summer 2026.

Our interim Third Court Library will operate for the duration of the project.
