The annual Charles Blackham Memorial competition will be held this year on Saturday 1st February 2019, in the College Chapel, starting at 3:00pm.

The competition is held early in the Lent Term in memory of the late chair of the Christ's College Music Society (m.2007) and the prize of £200 is generously donated by Mrs Sally Blackham, Charles's mother.

The competition is now open to all instrumentalists and singers in College, of all standards, although previous competition winners will not be eligible to enter again.

A maximum of five applicants will perform in the final recital competition in the Chapel.  If more than five performers apply, preliminary auditions will be held, during which applicants will perform a short section of their repertoire.

Sebastian Gorgon (Piano): Prokofiev - Sonata no.6, 1st mvt; Ligeti - Musica Ricercata, 6th mvt; Debussy - Etude pour les accords

Each candidate will perform 15 minutes of music abd have selected contrasting pieces that demonstrate a range of capabilities.

The competition will be judge by a panel of three, comprising the Director of Music, Professor David Rowland; a Senior Fellow; and the Chair of CCMS.
