Charles Blackham Memorial Competition 2020

Event date
Saturday 1 February, 13:00 - 17:00

The annual Charles Blackham Memorial competition will be held this year on Saturday 1st February 2019, in the College Chapel, starting at.....

The competition is held early in the Lent Term in memory of the late chair of the Christ's College Music Society (m.2007) and the prize of £200 is generously donated by Mrs Sally Blackham, Charles's mother.

The competition is now open to all instrumentalists and singers in College, of all standards, although previous competition winners will not be eligible to enter again.

A maximum of five applicants will perform in the final recital competition in the Chapel.  If more than five performers apply, preliminary auditions will be held, during which applicants will perform a short section of their repertoire.

For the final recital competition in the Chapel applicants will be asked to perform up to 15 minutes of music and are advised to select contrasting pieces that demonstrate a range of capabilities.  Performers must provide their own accompanist, if required, but CCMS is happy to assist in arranging this.

The competition will be judge by a panel of three, comprising the Director of Music, Professor David Rowland; a Senior Fellow; and the Chair of CCMS.
