Jane Stapleton is an Australian lawyer (ANU, LLB; Oxford, DPhil and DCL) who has held academic posts at Oxford, the University of Texas and the Australian National University as well as a number of visiting professorships including at Cambridge (as the Arthur Goodhart Visiting Professor of Legal Science), Harvard, Columbia and the European University Institute. She has acted as a consultant in commercial, pharmaceutical, medical and environmental litigation in the US and UK. 

She is a Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy, an Emeritus Council Member of the American Law Institute, an Honorary Bencher of Gray's Inn, an Emeritus Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford and an Honorary Fellow of St John’s College, Cambridge. In 2020 she was appointed an Honorary Queen’s Counsel by HM Queen Elizabeth II. In 2022 Jane stepped down as the 38th Master of Christ’s College, Cambridge where she continues as a Life Fellow.
