Dr Maria Rostovskaya is a Senior Scientist at the Epigenetics Programme, Babraham Institute, Cambridge. Her primary research interest is human early embryonic development, focusing on how the first cell decisions are made at the right time and in the correct order. She uses human embryonic stem cells to model these early events in a dish and applies computational approaches to study the underlying molecular control mechanisms.
Maria is an experienced supervisor in Cell and Developmental Biology (CDB), having taught CDB since 2014 at 13 colleges within Cambridge. In 2018, she received the student-led CUSU Award for Innovative Teaching.
Outside of research, Maria is a passionate skier and dancer, with five years of experience teaching dance in the past.
