Dr Farbod Akhlaghi will be in conversation with Dr David Edmonds about his new book, Parfit: A Philosopher and His Mission to Save Morality, on 25 October 2023, 5:00pm-6:30pm in the Lloyd Room, Christ’s College, Cambridge.

Dr Edmonds is a writer and philosopher, and author of many critically acclaimed books such as The Murder of Professor Schlick and Would You Kill the Fat Man? (both Princeton University Press) and the co-author, with John Eidinow, of the international bestseller Wittgenstein’s Poker. His books have been translated into more than two dozen languages, and Edmonds and Nigel Warburton cohost the popular Philosophy Bites podcast.

The book is the first biography of the life and work of the late Derek Parfit. Parfit was Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford and is widely considered one of the most important and influential philosophers of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

The conversation will explore Edmonds’s biography and Parfit’s work and legacy. Other contributors will include Professor Clare Chambers (Jesus College, Cambridge). An audience discussion will follow the talk.
