Public Access to the Old Library and Exhibition

College members and members of the public are welcome to visit the Old Library in order to enjoy the space and view the current exhibition.

The Old Library is open to the public on Tuesdays  and Thursdays, 14.00 to 16.00, during Michaelmas and Lent terms. Term dates can be found here. During the university's summer vacation we are also open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 14.00-16.00.

Visitors are also welcome at other times by appointment. Please email to arrange access.

Please note that the Old Library is on the 1st floor of the College. If you have difficulty in climbing stairs, or are in a wheelchair, it would be helpful if you would contact us in advance  -- on 01223-334950 or 01223-334905 -- to let us know about your visit (wheelchair access currently requires the use of quite a narrow corridor that will not fit all wheelchairs). However, that is not essential and we always do our best to accommodate the needs of all of our visitors.

Use of the Collections by Visiting Researchers

Visiting researchers and other non-College members wishing to consult items from our collections are always welcome, and can be accommodated during our staffed hours of Mondays to Fridays, 9.00 to 17.00.

In advance of visiting, applications should be made to the College Librarian, John Wagstaff (, phone 01223 334950).

Applications should be made at least one week prior to the date of the proposed visit, and should provide details of the materials to which access is sought.

Directions to the College can be found here.

A map showing the location of the Library within College is available here.

On arrival, please make your way to the Library, which is situated in First Court, and is fully signposted. Alternatively, ask for directions at the Porters' Lodge on St Andrew's Street.
