Julia Shvets is an applied microeconomist who joint Christ's College in 2007 as a College Lecturer in economics. She investigates systematic patterns in individuals' behavior in organizations and how they respond to changes in organizational rules, with the goal to understand why some organization and communities work better than others. Examples of these studies include empirical investigations into politicians' influences over judicial decisions, and into legislators' attempts to skew government spending towards their constituencies. This work uses 'natural experiments' - unexpected shifts in policy - to disentangle the many influences that shape people's actions in the real world.
Julia Shvets received her PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Before joining Christ's College she was a research fellow at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. She has also worked as an economic consultant and in a team of policy advisors to the Russian government.
