The College is sad to announce the death of Sir Jeffrey Tate CBE (m. 1961), Honorary Fellow.

Jeffrey Tate read Medicine at Christ's College, becoming an eye surgeon and working at St Thomas's Hospital, London. He gave up his clinical career to study music at the London Opera Centre, before becoming a repetiteur and a coach at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. He made his name as a conductor and became Chief Conductor of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra in 2008.

In the New Year Honours 2017, Jeffrey Tate was knighted for services to British music overseas.
