On Ash Wednesday, 17 February at 6.30pm in the College Chapel, Christ's College Choir will perform a selection of compositions by the former Director of Music at King's College, Cambridge, Sir Philip Ledger, in his presence.
This will be the latest in a series of collaborations between Christ's College Choir and Sir Philip, who has conducted a liturgical performance of his Requiem: A Thanksgiving for Life, on Remembrance Sunday 2008 in the College Chapel. In December 2008, Sir Philip once again joined forces with choir to direct some of the recording of a CD featuring a large selection of his compositions. The CD entitled 'Requiem: A Thanksgiving for Life: Choral Works by Sir Philip Ledger was released in December 2009 and will be on sale in the ante-chapel after the performance on 17th February.
On the return visit of Sir Philip Ledger to the College this term, the Chaplain of Christ's, The Revd Christopher Woods, said, "We are very much looking forward to welcoming back Sir Philip to Christ's to cement what is already a very convivial and fruitful relationship. The release of the most recent CD under the Regent Records label adds yet another top quality recording to the discography of the College Choir. We are very fortunate to have the support and encouragment of Sir Philip, whose compositions suit the context of the devotional and reflective spirituality of the College Chapel"
The performance on Ash Wednesday will be a devotional concert beginning at 6.30pm. Admission is free, but there will be a retiring collection. All are most welcome, including College alumni and members of the public.
