Following drinks the Yusuf Hamied Centre at Christ's College, and lunch in the College's Mountbatten Room, the celebration in the Todd-Hamied Seminar Room was introduced by Professor Bill Jones, Head of the Department of Chemistry, followed by talks from Professor Clare Grey (Geoffrey Moorhouse Gibson Professor and Director of the Todd-Hamied Laboratory), Professor Christopher Pickard (Christ's College (m. 1991) and University College London), Dr Melinda Duer (Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge) and Dr Elodie Salager (Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge).
The Laboratory was then formally opened by Dr Yusuf Hamied (Honorary Fellow) who has generously supported it.
The Laboratory's name is derived, in part, from Dr Hamied and the 'Todd' refers to Professor Lord Alexander Todd, Nobel Prize-winning chemist and Master of Christ's from 1963 to 1978.
