Sir Alan was a Fellow from 1958 to 1970, and then became an Honorary Fellow in 1970.  He was Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government from 1971 to 1974, Master of Jesus College from 1973 to 1986, and Vice-Chancellor of the University in 1977-79.

Sir Alan's funeral was held at Jesus College on Monday 27 February.  Another Honorary Fellow of Christ's, Professor Sir Peter Hirsch FRS, has kindly sent us the tribute to Sir Alan that he read at the funeral.
