Professor Mueller, professor emeritus at the University of Chicago,  was a distinguished scholar of ancient Greek philosophy and science and the reception of Plato and Aristotle in late antiquity.  He and his wife, Professor Janel Mueller, were Distinguished Visiting Scholars together in College during the academic year 2005-2006, during which they each gave one of the Lady Margaret series of lectures.

Professor Mueller died on 6 August 2010 in Chicago.
