An investigation into what Charles Darwin really thought about faith and religion was broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Sunday evening, 15 February at 9.30pm. The broadcast, called Darwin's Conundrum was presented by Vicar of St Bene't's Church, the Revd Angela Tilby and part of it was recorded in Christ's.
Although Darwin has become an icon for militant secularists, and his theory of evolution is often used to challenge faith and belief, Darwin had a much more complex relationship with religion than is often believed and at one stage was even training to be a priest. This complexity was explored in the radio broadcast.
