2009 is the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his classic book On the Origins of Species. To mark these joint anniversaries, Melvyn Bragg presents a major Radio 4 series re-assessing Darwin’s life and work ("In Our Time" 9:00 to 9:45 from Monday 5th to Thursday 8th January).
Christ's College, in particular Colin Higgins and David Norman contributed strongly to the first programme which tells the story of Darwin's early life in Shropshire and discusses the significance of the three years he spent at Cambridge, where his interests shifted from religion to natural science.
