Anne McLaren Memorial Fund - Discussion Event

Sponsored by the Anne McLaren Memorial Fund the discussion followed a theme very close to Professor McLaren’s main interests ‘Which career first? – planning family and career’, informative and interesting talks were given by Dr Susan Bewley (Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, London) and Dr Melanie Davies (University College Hospital).

They focussed on many of the medical issues raised by the ‘public health epidemic’ of pregnancies (or pregnancy attempts) among women in their 30s and 40s.

Social and anthropological responses to the presentation were then given by Irenee Daly (a PhD student in the Centre for Family Research here in Cambridge, and Dr Carrie Friese (London School of Economics).  Thereafter a lively discussion was held between those in the audience and the panel, chaired admirably by Professor Sarah Franklin (London School of Economics).
