`America, Empire of Liberty', the 90-part series written and presented by Professor David Reynolds on BBC Radio 4, has won the Voice of the Listener & Viewer Award for the Best New Radio Programme of 2008. It also received a SONY Radio Academy Award Nomination. These awards were for the first cycle of programmes, entitled ‘

Liberty and Slavery’, about the period up to the start of the Civil War in 1861. 

The third and final cycle, 'Empire and Evil' - running from the onset of the Cold War to the inauguration of Barack Obama - airs from June 1 to July 10, Monday to Friday at 3:45pm to 4pm, with an omnibus edition each Friday at 9pm.  The programmes will also be available for up to a week via the series website.
