Chico Buarque is one of Brazil's most famous musicians. He is also a novelist. Turbulence, his first novel to be translated into English, was published in 1992. Twenty years on Spilt Milk, which as Leite derramado won two important Brazilian literary prizes in 2010, is published by Atlantic in London on 11 October. It will be Chico's fourth book in English.
Writer James Woodall met this unique artist when Turbulence was being published and has followed his output closely ever since (visiting him several times in Rio de Janeiro). To mark the UK appearance of the new novel, he offers an illustrated guide through Chico's many songs and published words. This will be as much about music as fiction.....there will be samba.
The talk will start at 7:30pm in the Yusuf Hamied Theatre.
The event is arranged by the Cambridge University Brazilian Society. Please contact PhD student Guilherme Frederico Lima gfl21"at"cam.ac.uk if you would like further information.
