Undergraduate Travel Grants

2013 LONG VACATION TRAVEL AWARDS

Undergraduates are invited to apply for Travel Awards as listed below. Grants are more likely to be made to applicants who present realistic, well-informed and adequately researched travel plans, and students are also invited to discuss plans with their Tutor.  Applications should be made on forms available from the Tutorial Office in Y4 or from the College website

Please note the closing date is before the end of Lent Term:  WEDNESDAY 6 MARCH 2013.

LATE APPLICATIONS:   A limited number of late applications will be accepted in Easter Term until Friday 31 May 2013, especially for travel related to academic study.   Students should use the standard form for late applications but they will need to first obtain their Tutor’s signature as approval before forwarding the form to the Senior Tutor. 

·         COLLEGE VACATION TRAVEL GRANTS: These are offered only for travel in the Long Vacation. Grants are currently in the range £50 – £100 each. Only first and second year undergraduates are eligible.

·         JOHN WILLIAM BENNETT TRAVEL AWARD: For travel in the Long Vacation for ecological field studies in applied or environmental biology.

·         K.W. BLYTH TRAVEL BURSARY: a substantial bursary for a deserving student for summer travel or other activities.

·         CARTMELL TRAVEL AWARDS: For undergraduates reading Modern Languages for travel to countries relevant to their studies in the Easter or Long Vacations. Awards are not tenable during the year abroad.

·         CECIL & MICHELLE COURTNEY FUND: One small grant for undergraduates reading Modern Languages for overseas travel or to assist with the cost of attending a relevant course.

·         R.D. DAVIES TRAVEL FUND: To enable members of the College reading Engineering (or Chemical Engineering or Computer Science) to take up summer employment abroad.

·         J.G. DRUMMOND TRAVEL PRIZE: For Undergraduate Scholars for travel abroad in the Long Vacation.

·         J.B. & MILLICENT KAYE FUND: For a 6–8 week summer research project in the field of cancer research, interpreted broadly.

·         JOPIE KEMPTON FUND: For summer travel related to the Netherlands or associated territories, with preference for those studying Physics.

·         SIR HANS KORNBERG TRAVEL PRIZE: Generous grants for students in Natural Sciences to gain experience in laboratories overseas. Preference may be given to a student intending to take one of the summer courses offered by the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA.

·         REVEREND G.R. McLEAN AWARD: One grant towards the expenses of any intending ordinand in the Church of England for a visit to the Holy Land, in the Easter or Long Vacation.

·         G.R.N. MINCHIN AWARDS: Substantial grants for Long Vacation travel by undergraduates. In making awards, the Managers are required to take into account the general character, scholastic ability, athletic prowess and financial need of those applying.

·         TONY RICHARDSON AWARD: For travel grants in the Easter or Long Vacation for students studying Architecture or History of Art.

·         ROUSE FUND: Travel grants for Long Vacation visits to Greece by undergraduates reading Classics.

·         ROY FUND: Grants for Long Vacation travel and research in the Indian sub-continent for an undergraduate reading an appropriate Tripos who is planning a Dissertation or Tripos Paper next year concerned with some aspect of Indian History or Economics, or a closely-related subject area.

·         NORMAN SOSNOW TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIPS: Substantial scholarships for travel in the Long Vacation for undergraduates reading Economics, History or PPS.

·         E.J. STACEY FUND: A grant for an undergraduate reading (or who has previously read) Medical Sciences to travel in the Long Vacation.

·         JACK & MARGARET THORNTON AWARD: Travel grants for undergraduates reading Modern Languages, with preference for those reading French or German.

·         ZATMAN BURSARY: For Long Vacation travel, with preference for those reading Geology.
