9.1 Car Parking

Because of traffic congestion in Cambridge, the University and Colleges have agreed to restrict the use of motor vehicles used by junior members (undergraduates and graduates). Consequently, it is a University offence for a junior member to keep, hire or drive a car in Cambridge during Term without permission. A fine of £175 can be imposed on any offender by the University Motor Proctor. Permission to keep a car in Cambridge is only granted in exceptional circumstances. Such permission should be sought by obtaining an application form for a Motor Proctor's Licence from the Admissions Office. The form must be counter-signed by the student's Tutor.

Permission to keep a car in Cambridge does not imply a right to park in the College car parks. Students may only park in College with the permission of their Tutor; such permission will only be granted in exceptional circumstances, e.g. in the case of a disabled student or if suffering from a temporary condition or injury.

A charge of £25 per day, or part of a day, will be levied for unauthorised parking

Parents of junior members are allowed to park in College when bringing them to or collecting them from College, in order to load or unload belongings. This should not normally take longer than one hour. They should not, however, park for any longer than is absolutely necessary, and should never leave a car parked in College while sightseeing or shopping in Cambridge.

On weekdays during the University Term the car park is heavily congested. For this reason, parents may only park after 15.00 from Monday to Friday during term. In exceptional circumstances permission to park earlier in the day may be authorised by the Director of College Services, but such permission does not guarantee that a parking space will be available.

9.2 Bicycles

9.2.1 Identification of Bicycles

All student bicycles must be marked with the distinguishing letter of the College (B) and with a personal number which will be allocated by the Tutorial Office. This is not only a requirement of University Regulations but will also maximise the chance of a bike being returned should it be stolen. Proctors may issue warnings or on-the-spot fines for failure to comply.

Any bicycle parked in College that is not so marked may be removed and disposed of.

9.2.2 Parking of Bicycles

No bicycle may be brought through the Great Gate or into the Courts. Bicycles must be parked only in the designated parking places and are not to be leaned against College buildings. Bicycles that are improperly parked may be removed and/or immobilised. Information as to designated parking places for bicycles in the College should be obtained from the Head Porter

9.3 Park and Ride

There are five park and ride sites in Cambridge, which operate Monday to Saturday. Two of the sites, Madingley Road and Newmarket Road, also operate on a Sunday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. All the sites are staffed during opening hours. All sites are secured with barriers after the last bus, but these rise to allow traffic to leave after hours. All sites have height barriers except Babraham Road and Trumpington, which are suitable for camper vans, as larger spaces are provided.
