    APPENDIX 2

    THE COLLEGE EMERGENCY PLAN

    General

Because of the geographical layout of the College and its natural division into several discrete areas, namely the Courts, it is not possible to have a generic plan which covers the whole College. Instead, each building in each court will have its own emergency plan, covering what action residents and their guests should take in the case of an emergency. All members of College should familiarise themselves with the emergency plan for the building in which they are resident.

    The Threat

The most serious threats to which the College is considered to be vulnerable and the actions to be taken in the event of an emergency relating to them occuring are as follows:

Fire. The construction of some of the older buildings means that they are particularly vulnerable to fire. It is, therefore, important that you familiarise yourself with the fire safety instructions relevant to your staircase or buiilding, in particular:

      1. The location and type of fire fighting appliances in the vicinity of your accommodation.
      2. The location of Fire Alarm points on your staircase
      3. The emergency escape route from your room to the assembly point for you staircase or building
      4. The identity of the fire safety warden for your staircase

In the event of a fire alarm sounding in your staircase or building, do not wait to discover whether it is a false alarm - you must evacuate the building immediately.

If you discover a fire you should:

      1. Raise the alarm.
      2. ensure that your immediate neighbour(s) have heard the alarm.
      3. Make one attempt to extinguish the fire using the appropriate fire appliance ONLY if you can do so without endangering yourself
      4. Leave the building by the designated escape route and move to the designated assembly area.

Terrorism. There is currently no known direct or indirect terrorist threat to the College. If the College receives notice either of a heightened general threat of a terrorist attack occuring or of a specific threat to the College, you will be informed of the threat, and what action to take, by any available means.
