Electricity in the UK
Note: The voltage from all power sockets in the UK is in the range 220-240V. If you have come from a country where the voltage supplied is diiferent, for instance 110V then please ensure that you change the setting on your appliance before plugging it in. This is commonly done using a switch near the power input on the equipment.
With desktop computers the voltage-change-over switch is normally at the back near to the power socket. Most modern laptop computers have a separate power supply usually in the shape of a small house brick, the majority of these are "auto-sensing" in that, they automatically adapt to the local voltage. However, check before you plug it in.
All electrical sockets in college rooms are plug type "G". If your equipment is fitted with a different plug-type then you will have to buy an adapter, commonly available at airports or travel shops and in Cambridge at Maplin, Dixons and John Lewis

NB: The voltage from the socket is 220V. If you have come from a country where the voltage supplied is different, for instance 110V, then please ensure that you change the setting on your appliance before plugging it in.
Media and Licences
It is important that students should bring the original media and licence that was used to install the software on their computer.
