Bradford Network Sentry

Bradford Campus Manager

The College uses Bradford Network Sentry (formerly called Campus Manager) to control access to the network and subsequently the Internet. When you follow the connection procedure you are asked to download a client executable file called Dissolvable Agent.exe to your machine, this runs the checks needed to make sure your computer conforms to the College Network Policy and then exits; it does not install anything on your computer. As the executable is generated at the time you check your computer it will not have a digital signature and current versions of Windows will warn you of this fact - it is safe to continue downloading and running the program.

The following checks are made on your computer:

  • Version of Operating System – Only versions of operating systems still supported by their developers are supported as older versions are likely to have security issues. In particular versions of Windows older than Windows XP are not supported.

  • Windows Update – Checks that Windows Update is enabled and has been run recently.

  • Anti-Virus – Checks you have a valid up-to-date Anti-Virus client installed on your machine. The College recommends the free Microsoft Security Essentials product for MS Windows computers. Most computers come with trial Anti-Virus software which should be remove. Please note that running multiple AV products normally adversely affect the function or performance of a computer and should be avoided.

  • Bridging – Ensures Connection Bridging has been disabled as is required by the University IT Syndicate.

  • DHCP – Checks that DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is set to active, this enables the computer to get its IP address from the network.

If your machine does not match the minimum security requirements for connection to the college network then your machine will be put into a virtual holding area until the problems are resolved.

Bradford Network Sentry and its Dissolvable Agent Client does not monitor your system on a day to day basis. It does not install itself on your computer or allow us to watch what you computer use.
