13.5 University counselling Services
All tutors and many of the staff can offer advice on where other help can be found.
Details of the College's tutorial system and how to obtain advice and support is contained in the booklet "Problems and Advice" a copy of which is given to all students.
As well as running the Chapel (please see the following paragraph) the Chaplain has a room in college (A1, Second Court) and can provide pastoral care and support for all students, whether or not they see themselves as religious; you can talk to the Chaplain confidentially about anything, and can discuss things from a secular point of view if that is your wish. The Chaplain will, of course, also discuss issues of faith and spirituality with those who have questions, and can assist any who are interested in being baptised or confirmed.
The Chapel has been a place of prayer since 1505, and continues to be a focal and inclusive space in which members of college can worship and learn together. Take a look at our pages on the College website and you will see that the chaplaincy is not just what goes on in Chapel on a Sunday. It is also the social contact and the fellowship after chapel; the small groups that meet in the week; the opportunity to share faith through friendship; and the chance to take part in supporting local charities. All in all, it is about exploring an authentic spirituality.
The chaplaincy tries to work closely with other Christian organisations in college, including active Roman Catholic and Methodist societies, the Christian Union and emerging Fusion cells. There is no reason why membership of one Christian group should preclude involvement with another.
If you practice another faith (e.g. Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish) the Chaplain will be happy to advise on places of worship, where to buy food, and - if you'd prefer - who the respective University Chaplain is.
The College employs a Nurse who is in attendance in the surgery in Q Staircase from 10.30 and 12.30 each Monday to Friday during Term,. In addition, all students should register with a local doctor or practice.
The Porters Lodge is manned 24 hours per day, and the Duty Porter can always contact the duty or pernoctating tutor, or other College Officers as necessary.
The University also offers a number of counselling services. Further details can be found HERE or in the Christ’s College handbook Information for Students, which is available from the Tutorial Office.
