Telephone Calls and Mobile Phones
Contact with Friends and Relatives
1. You must notify the Wages and Salaries Officer of any change in your personal circumstances - for example, any change of name, address, telephone number or bank account information - so that accurate information can be maintained on the College's records and contact can be made with you in an emergency, if necessary, outside normal working hours.
2. You must not take any other employment without the prior permission of the Bursar. Such permission will not be unreasonably withheld provided that there is no conflict of interest and it is not likely to interfere with the performance of your job duties. The opportunity will also be taken to discuss with you any implications arising from the current working time legislation.
3. Circumstances may arise where you need time off for medical/dental appointments, or for other reasons. Where possible, such appointments should be made outside normal working hours. If this is not possible, time off required for these purposes may be granted at the discretion of your Head of Department.
4. Individuals' reactions to bereavement vary greatly and the setting of fixed rules for time off is therefore inappropriate. You should discuss your circumstances with your Head of Department.
5. If you are called for Jury Service, you must inform your Head of Department as soon as possible, and produce the summons from the Court. You will be entitled to paid leave for Jury Service. You should note that as you will be paid during your period of Jury Service you may not claim compensation from the Court for loss of earnings. If, on any day during any period of your Jury Service, you are released early, you must make every effort to attend work on that day. If in doubt, you should telephone your Head of Department for guidance.
6. The College will reimburse you for any authorised expenses incurred on College activities, details of which will be issued separately. You must provide receipts for any expenditure.
7. The College will endeavour to keep you informed about items of interest by means of the Director of College Services or the Bursar's office, ad hoc meetings and notice boards. You should use these (with permission) if you wish to promote any particular item of interest to other members of staff.
The College does not accept liability for any loss of, or damage to, property which you bring onto the premises. You are requested not to bring personal items of value onto the premises and, in particular, not to leave any personal items overnight.
9. Articles of lost property should be handed in to the Porters' Lodge where they will be retained whilst attempts are made to discover the owner. After three months, the College will dispose of any lost property which has not been claimed.
10. Car parking is not a contractual right or condition of employment. The College reserves the right to limit the availability of parking facilities, or to charge for parking, should, at any time in the future, the College be taxed, or otherwise charged a fee, on the basis that it provides staff car parking, or otherwise decide that this is desirable or necessary.
11. Free car parking is currently available for College staff travelling by car to work, but is limited, with insufficient places for all staff and Fellows. Only cars registered with the Director of College Services Assistant and displaying a Christ's parking badge are entitled to be parked in the College car parks. Priority must be given to Fellows and staff at work. Staff should not use the car park at peak times (i.e. before 3 p.m on weekdays and at any time on certain weekends) for any non work related use.
12. To avoid congestion, all vehicles must be parked only in the designated car park and parking areas. No liability is accepted for damage to private vehicles, however it may be caused.
13. It is expressly forbidden to give a car-parking badge to any other person to park any other unregistered car.
14. Bicycles should be parked in designated bicycle parking areas and not otherwise parked around the College grounds. There is a staff bicycle shed behind Y staircase. The College recommends the use of an appropriate lock when parking bicycles, and takes no responsibility for bicycles parked on College grounds.
15. The College reserves the right to open all mail received by the College, including that addressed to members of staff. Private mail should not, therefore, be sent care of the College's address. No private mail may be posted at the College's expense except in those cases where a formal re-charge arrangement has been made in advance with the Bursar.
TELEPHONE CALLS AND MOBILE PHONES
16. It is recognised that telephones are essential for College activities. Personal telephone calls are, however, allowed only in cases of emergency and with the prior permission of your Head of Department. If you have been provided with a mobile phone, you are responsible for ensuring that it is kept safe and secure and fully charged at all times.
17. You are not allowed to buy or sell goods or provide services on your own behalf on College premises.
18. Unless specific authorisation is given by the Bursar, no collections, charitable or otherwise of any kind are allowed on College premises.
CONTACT WITH FRIENDS AND RELATIVES
19. You should discourage your friends and relatives from contacting you at work, either in person or by telephone, except in an emergency. In particular, the use of personal mobile phones during working hours is discouraged. If necessary staff will be asked to ensure that their telephones are switched off except during rest breaks.
