Qian Kan is Lecturer in Chinese at the Open University. Before joining the Open University in January 2009, she taught Modern Chinese language in the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Cambridge at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels for 11 years. She is a linguist by training and her current research interest is on how various online tools enhance the learning experience, intercultural learning and mobile learning. She has published the following learning materials: L197 第一步: Beginners’ Chinese (The Open University, 2009 and 2010); Teach Yourself Phone Mandarin (Hodder & Stoughton, 2008), Colloquial Chinese 2 (Routledge 2007), Mandarin Chinese Phrase Book ( BBC Active, 2007), Colloquial Chinese (Routledge 1995 and 2nd edition forthcoming), Colloquial Chinese CD-Rom (Routledge 1998), Interactive Guide to Chinese Characters CD-Rom (China Chain, 2001). Developing Writing Skills in Chinese (Routledge 2003, co-author with Boping Yuan).
Dr Kan has been Director of Studies in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies for Christ’s College since 2006.
