Boathouse Redevelopment Fundraising

Boathouse Redevelopment Home >> Fundraising

As it says on the redevelopment homepage, “We now need to raise the remaining funds necessary to bring this project to life and meet our anticipated start-date of January 2013. Your support, at whatever level, is crucial and we hope you will wish to support this visionary project.”

On this page you will find; where the money came from to get us started, how much we need to accomplish the upgrade, where we are searching for it, how this will be done, the Appeal we plan, the fun we shall have in the process, and when.

Fundraising so far

Funding has been needed to permit purchase of the strip of land on which some of the new part of the boathouse is to stand, and to employ BB&C up to RIBA Stage 4 (full planning permission). Dr Yusuf Hamied (Honorary Fellow) has generously financed most of this, with some supplementary donations and three sponsored summer sculling expeditions in a coastal IV to Denver Sluice and back; from Bedford to the boathouse; and to Hemingford Grey and back (see news page for details). Another is planned for July ‘12 from Nottingham to Newark.

The total raised so far can be found on the News page.

Future fundraising

We are now seeking support from Blades, Alumni/Alumnae and other supporters of the Club to enable us to make this project a reality. The estimated overall costs of the project are £3M, including demolition and construction (due to start January 2013), equipment and furniture fit-out, the move of the Club to other premises meanwhile, legal fees, and Barclays’ costs for granting access. Once sufficient seed corn funding has been gathered, an Appeal will be launched, predominantly amongst the Blades, but not forgetting the other Alumni/Alumnae and supporters. Any money raised in excess of the redevelopment costs will be transferred to the Boat Club endowment fund to help support the Club in the future. During the Appeal, a programme of fundraising events will be held, including a gala Regatta and Dinner (in Hall) on Saturday 15th September 2012.

We are able to offer naming opportunities for major gifts for the project. Please contact Mrs Catherine Twilley, the College’s Development Director [development@christs.cam.ac.uk] to discuss how you can support the Boat Club.
