Men's 3rd Fellows' Boat VIII Lents 2009-10 , Lent Bumps , Day 1
Bumped
LMBC IV

Our experienced crew took little time to reel in the Maggie boat in front getting a textbook bump at station 5 having set off from station 11. No problems from Emma III behind who impressively went on to overbump. See you tomorrow Emma :)

Rowed over

A formidable row from the boat today. The likely bumping out pair in front of us happened pretty quickly leaving us the course of a longer race - our boat's speciality. Anglia Ruskin II were unaware of our overbump plans as we went round the gut. On to Plough reach we could see them in the distance and our composed solid grind reeled them in. "5 lengths, 4 lengths, 3 lengths..." was all we could hear from Jimmy on the bank and spurred us further on. Going round Ditton corner we got to 2 lengths, but we were running out of race course - the lower division finishing line being the railings just on to the reach. A final push put all our remaining effort in and we closed to just under 1 length on the overbump. Unfortunately ARU II had the early finish line to save them. A fantastic row from the whole crew and we can console ourselves in the knowledge that we would have almost certainly caught them if the finish line was the railway bridge.

Anyways, we'll see them on Saturday by the look of the results when they'll only be one boat in front of us...

Bumped
Homerton II

Textbook bump again as anticipated having seen Emma III do the same the day before. A composed start set us in good stead and taking it down to a solid stride started to reel Homerton II in. A push for 10 at the gunshed brought us to 3 whistles and one more brought our bow ball level with their stroke man. Despite the Homerton cox's valiant attempt to ignore our bow, our boat kept going until the bump was called at about station 1 (having started at station 10) about 3/4 of the way down first post reach.

Much greenery ensued :)

See you again on Saturday ARU II...

Bumped
Anglia Ruskin II

Another bump to add to our collection today courtesy of ARU II. Our standard start was followed by a composed solid row down first post reach which closed us to 3/4 length. Not as close as we'd hoped by that point and fair play to ARU for standing up to the pressure we were applying behind them. Then the horrible part of any race round the gut and the shift to anaerobic respiration. We held the distance down the gut in the choppy water. By the time we got to grassy corner though, our bodies were through the worst they were going to get and we seized the power back on to plough reach. Our boat's very much used to the longer type of race as opposed to sprints and this experience really paid off. Our push for 10 out of grassy corner took us down to withing 1/4 length. Winding in the last bit followed naturally to the bump before we got to the Plough pub.

A nice race overall to finish off this set of bumps in style.

Men's 3rd Fellows' Boat VIII Lents 2009-10 , May Bumps , Day 1 , Race 2
Rowed over

Division 4- sandwich boat: rowed over
We were chasing Corpus M2 who bumped Jesus M4 very quickly, leaving Guy to do some acrobatic coxing under the motorway bridge. We then pushed for the overbump on LMBC M4, however the usual effortless style of the fellows’ rowing was disrupted by the choppy water. We experienced some ‘technical difficulties’ nearing first post corner allowing them to pull well clear. We chased them down the course for a row over.

Going into day 2- hopefully we will now hold Sidney M2 for the row over, then have Jesus M4 in the sights for a bump to establish in the 4th division.
