The 22k Ouse Marathon restarted this year form Denver to Ely on Sunday 6th September 2009.

A hardy collection of postgrads and fellows stepped up to the challenge and we won with a time of 1hour 39min 54seconds - leading all of the rest of the competition by at least 5 clear minutes.

Not being certain on how to pace this length of race, we set off at a steady rate 22 for the main chunk of the race. At the 15km marker we stepped it up to 26 and confidently to 32 for the final 500m to end in style!

Then there was the issue of getting home... After a couple of pints and a meal in Ely, we hopped back in the boat and rowed the remaining 26k back to Cambridge with our shiny "Isle of Ely Boat Club" pin badges which we'd won.
