Among the many generous gifts Christ's has received throughout its history, legacies have been particularly important. Friends and well-wishers, Fellows and Members have remembered the College in their will, enabling Christ's to develop and flourish as a leading centre of excellence. All legacies, large or small, can make a real difference.
Christ's College is a registered charity (Registered Charity No.1137540) so a legacy to the College may reduce the inheritance tax payable on your estate. In the Budget 2011 the Government announced its intention to incentivise bequests to charity by reducing inheritance tax from 40% to 36% on estates where at least 10% of the net estate has been given to one or more charities. This change is expected to come into force for deaths on or after 6 April 2012.
When you make or update your will, please consider including a legacy to Christ's College. Alternatively, you can make a gift by adding a codicil to your existing will. By doing so, you can help to ensure that Christ's maintains its tradition of excellence for generations to come.
Giving through a will is often the simplest and most affordable method of supporting Christ’s. This section of the website outlines some of the tax advantages of making a gift in a will and describes some of the different types of legacies available.
The Development Director is happy to talk confidentially to Members and friends of the College who are considering leaving a legacy.

I am really grateful for the Alfred Harrison Bursary - it has been very useful for a number of reasons. I am studying literature as part of my course (MML) and would have struggled to buy all of the set texts and other resources needed for my degree without it. This financial help has also allowed me to concentrate more on my studies, particularly during the Christmas and Easter vacations when I would otherwise have had to find paid work. I have especially appreciated this bursary in the period leading up to exams as it has enabled me to focus more on revision and academic work. I would like to express my gratitude to all of the College's Benefactors who have kindly provided me and others with the Alfred Harrison Bursary. It has made a real difference to my studies and my time so far at Christ's College, as I am sure it has for many others.

I would say that it is a great honour to receive recognition and financial help for a sport that I have practised neigh on my whole life. In sport, small margins are crucial and the Monica Kornberg Award has allowed me to put in that extra bit of work that pulled me through in my second singles at Varsity this year.
