Simon Schama to advise on history curriculum

Professor Simon Schama, Honorary Fellow of Christ's College has been invited by the government to help revise the current history curriculum after interviewing Prime Minister David Cameron for the Financial Times recently.

In a statement, Professor Schama (who studied History at Christ's in 1963) said he hoped to instil “excitement and joy” into the history curriculum as pupils connected with their ancestry.

“A return to coherent gripping history is not a step backwards to dry as dust instruction,” he said.

"It represents a moment of cultural and educational rediscovery. Without this renewed sense of our common story – one full of contention, not self-congratulation – we will be a poorer and weaker Britain."
