Anthony Smith (m. 2002) has spent the last year crafting a sculpture of Darwin as a young man, which will be unveiled on the 12th February. The bronze will become a permanent and unique memorial at Christ's.

The bronze of Darwin, depicted as a student at Christ's before he set off on the Beagle, was funded by a generous donation from NST alumnus Alan Smith (m 1964, no relation), now Senior Vice President, Research, Genzyme.  Here, you can see some pictures of the bronze in progress.

You can also read an interview with Anthony about the process of making the sculpture in the December issue of Pieces.

Anthony was featured on BBC Radio Cambridge recently and you can read his story on the BBC website here.
