Open Day Comments

April 2013 (Mathematics only)

I would like to thank everyone who helped with the day and what I was pleasantly surprised with was hearing how Christ's take into account each persons admission individually, thinking about the standard of school they go to and the results they achieve at a school of that calibre.

All the questions I had before the open day were either answered in the initial talk, or by the students on the tour. They were very helpful and knew a lot about the college.  I am definitely more likely to apply to Christ's now. I was amazed by the facilities there and the fact that the students were so loyal to Christ's shows that they are happy there.

I really enjoyed the day and found it very informative. It was nice to meet people from the university and the day made me want to apply to Cambridge even more than I did before!

It has made me even more likely to apply to Cambridge but not necessarily to Christ's, although it has certainly assured me that Christ's would be a good option.

February 2013

I definitely think the Open Day has made it more likely for me to apply to Cambridge - the students were very friendly and helpful, and the subject-specific talks were insightful.

It was very enjoyable throughout, and a big thanks to those students who helped out with the open day - I learnt a lot about Christ's from them and they are all amazing!

It was a really good day and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The best part was probably the informal chat with the students relevant to my subject. All my questions were answered and it made me more likely to apply to both Cambridge and Christ's.

I thought that the introductory talk was enjoyable and very informative about the college, but the most informative part was meeting the Director of Studies since he explained about what the course would involve.

I really enjoyed the talk given to us regarding the admissions process and student life; it allowed me to better comprehend what university life would be at Christ’s and even Cambridge overall. Moreover, the admissions process was explained more explicitly as to what Christ’s, in particular, is looking for in terms of a successful applicant.

Thank you for the opportunity to experience a taste of Christ’s College, I enjoyed the open day very much.

I particularly enjoyed the campus tour with the 2nd year medical student, as he was friendly and chatty, and gave us a real insight into student life at Christ's as well as a superb tour of the campus, which is beautiful in itself!

I found it incredibly useful! I found the Questions and Answers session with the Directors of Studies very useful, and I thought that the opportunity to socialise not only with students at Christ's, but with those looking to apply to Christ's, was the most enjoyable, and is probably what has motivated me the most! There wasn't really anything I can think of that wasn't covered, all my questions were answered, I saw everything that I wanted to see, and I'm definitely more likely to apply to Christ's after today. I found the day thoroughly engaging and informative, thank you very much!

I think the experience has made me more likely to apply to Cambridge as I was really impressed by the close knit group of students and the proximity to the town centre that Christ's had.

Thank you for the excellent experience. The Open Day was amazing.

The tutors were helpful in the way that they answered the questions and provided the students that may have felt nervous about coming to the college or felt that they were unsuitable for the course enough confidence and advice on their current A-level choices.

It has certainly made Christ's a stronger option for me because I enjoyed talking to the tutors and I was made to feel at home. The staff were the best part of Christ's, and their efforts to make me feel relaxed. I was scared before of whether I would feel comfortable and not only the staff but the students were extremely friendly.

Meeting the Directors of Study for my subject was an opportunity I found so helpful. Having the ability to ask my questions and receiving information I would never have thought to have received from my potential interviewers was fantastic, and for the opportunity I am very grateful.

Having been to the open day, its going to be hard seeing other universities which lack Cambridge’s very personal collegiate system. However the open day has also assured me of how strong the competition is and also how difficult it is to get an offer. Being more realistic, I am now going to wait to see my AS results before even considering applying.

Thank you very much for the opportunity to see your college, I had a fantastic time.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and I found it very informative. The Open Day has made me more likely to apply to both Cambridge and Christ's.

The part of the Open Day that I found the most enjoyable was the tour with the students that allowed us to see the campus from a student's point of view and get their honest opinions. However, the most informative part of the day was the talk with the subject professors, it allowed me to ask questions and get advice really easily.

Saturday April 28th 2012 (Mathematics only)

I really liked the lecture on mathematics. I thought the information about STEP and general offers was very useful. I also liked being able to see the mathematical director of studies and having the option to ask him questions. It was great being able to have a tour and talk to the students at Christ.

The first presentation about the university in general was very informative and made me see how Cambridge really stood out from the other universities. However the second presentation (by a current student about student life) was exactly what I wanted to see when I applied for the Open Day.

The Open Day made me more likely to apply to Christ's. I had already looked at the maths course and knew that Cambridge was the place I wanted to apply to.

It has definitely made me feel a lot more confident about applying to Cambridge and has certainly given me a new passion for applying to Christ's. The whole day was very welcoming and the lectures were challenging, but embellished with charm and humour that was simply brilliant. Christ's has become my top choice since the open day, seeming to be a wonderful college all round, with impressive resources and weekly two to one supervisions.

I found the lectures given by the professors of Mathematics the most enjoyable for it gave me great insight as to what I can expect from studying Mathematics at Cambridge in the future. Moreover, such styles of lectures are not something one can come across inside the classroom, therefore I relished the opportunity to have such an insight into what studying Mathematics at Cambridge would be like.

I enjoyed the tour of the college by the students as it helped me to picture myself in the environment of Christ's. I am likely to apply to Cambridge, more likely to apply to Christ's.

The sessions with the Directors of Study I found it extremely useful. Also in terms of choosing subjects to actually get a real insight of the course from someone who teaches it. Additionally, it was brilliant that the groups were so small and I could ask questions without any hesitations at all. I think it was very much a mixture of both -enjoyable and informative.

Thank you very much for the Open Day! I really enjoyed it and it gave me a greater insight on how it is to live in Christ's and Cambridge.

Attending the Open Day has made me realise that I need to think very carefully before applying and that I need to scrutinise the course in more depth before making any decision.

I found the introduction to Christ's College very interesting and enlightening, especially on the subject of personal statements. However, to me, the most productive part of the day was the college tour which gave me a very good overview of what the life of a student in Cambridge is all about.

It definitely made me more likely to apply to Cambridge and I loved Christ's. I really hope that I will be able to get into it in the future.

I really liked meeting with the students and being able to ask them questions. Also meeting with the Director of Studies helped clear some confusion in my mind. The admissions talk gave useful facts and helped to focus us all. I learnt about the importance of UMS points.

The student tour was extremely informative. Meeting the current students and the Director of Studies was especially interesting. My day at Christ’s College has made me more determined to proceed with my application.

Thank you very much for the amazing experience, it really has changed me and my ideas about what to do for my higher education.

I had been thinking about a few different colleges in Cambridge and even doubting my ability to apply to Cambridge itself, but being encouraged definitely made me more likely to apply. I will be applying to Cambridge, and almost certainly to Christ's College, as it had such a wonderful atmosphere.

The Open Day helped to clarify some details on the course structure which made me realise I would be better suited to another university. My experience nonetheless was very positive and would definitely have made me more likely to apply otherwise.

It was a wonderful experience and I really got a good impression from the outstanding atmosphere and rapport with the students and teachers. It appears a wonderful place to be :D

I found the session with the head of the department for my particular course very helpful. I found it easy to ask questions as it was a small group with a relxed atmosphere. It was also helpful to be told about the course in general, as well as extra-curricular reading I could be doing to improve my chances of being a successful applicant. Everyone was very friendly and I really had a great day.

I learnt most from the tour (thanks to your student Ben), as I could now confidently find my way around most parts of the college and enjoyed seeing the beautiful buildings.

The part of the Open Day I found most informative was the tour around the college from the existing students: I thought it was really nice to see Christ's from the students' point of view. It was also nice to talk to the Directors of Studies, and see what they were expecting of students.

I found the talk with the Director of Studies extremely helpful, especially as it was done informally and in small groups, meaning that I didn't feel inhibited when asking questions. Having a chat with current students about life at Christ's was also really good, as they provided a perspective which you don't really get when reading information on the website and the prospectus.

The Open Day made me more likely to apply to Christ's. I definitely felt a great sense of community at the college, and thought I would enjoy spending my undergraduate study years there.

I enjoyed the tour given by the current students and found the subject talks most informative.

I would like to say a final thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable and informative open day as it has provided me with invaluable information which cannot be gathered simply from reading prospectuses or online.
